Ground Beef 101
Not all ground beef is the same. Understanding fat ratios and how you plan to cook it can help you choose the right blend for burgers, tacos, meatballs and everything in between.

UNDERSTAND THE RATIO
Ground beef is commonly labeled with a lean-to-fat ratio, such as 80/20 or 90/10. The first number represents lean meat and the second represents fat.
FOR JUICY BURGERS
A blend with a little more fat, such as 80/20, is a popular choice for burgers. The extra fat adds flavor and helps keep the meat juicy as it cooks.
FOR EVERYDAY COOKING
Leaner ground beef works well for tacos, casseroles, pasta dishes and other recipes where the beef is combined with additional ingredients and flavors.
COOK IT THROUGH
Ground beef should reach an internal temperature of 160°F. Use a meat thermometer to check the thickest part rather than relying on color alone.
